Poker Raids Continue in South Carolina
Tuesday, 29 April 2008
Things are heating up in all aspects of poker legality these days, it seems. As in the public forums they fight for new bills, the banks continue to ban FirePay-style quick access to money, and in home games they continue to bust down on even the smallest of local ring games, as happened against most recently in a series of raids on home games in South Carolina.  Read more...

UIGEA Debate Rolls On
Thursday, 24 April 2008
It never gets old does it? Well, it’s going to take a lot of boatshaking and fistpumping before this little old Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) just goes away. It’s going to take a lot of searing news rants and people getting involved before we’re allowed to play cards online freely in this country. Fortunately, there are some level-headed chaps left in the government who are willing to stand up, ie: Congressmen Barney Frank, Ron Paul, Luis Gutierrez and Peter King, who this week sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson expressing their trouble with the maligned bill.  Read more...

World Poker Tour Settles With Pros
Sunday, 20 April 2008
There was a good amount of talk a couple of years ago about a small group of professional poker players—including Chris Ferguson, Andrew Bloch, Annie Duke, Phil Gordon, and Howard Lederer—had filed a federal lawsuit against the WPT Enterprises Inc., the company behind the legendary World Poker Tour. After the players announced this suit at the 2006 WSOP, the subject kind of dropped off the map, but now there’s been an announcement that the suit has been settled, and the WPT player release (the culprit behind the squabble) has now been edited to affect future snafus.  Read more...

California Poker Study Bill Moves Forward
Friday, 18 April 2008
We heard a couple weeks ago about how a prospective study into the ‘luck vs. skill’ debate that seems to be dictating so much of the fate of online poker had been proposed in the state of California and could potentially shed some light on the different between the two camps in the poker world.  Thankfully now, the bill that would make that study a reality has been sent forward in the California Assembly Governmental Organization Committee (AGOC) by a unanimous vote to bring the bill before the California Assembly Appropriations Committee.  Read more...

PokerStars Signs Gavin Griffin & Chad Brown
Wednesday, 16 April 2008
PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker have been in pretty deep battle over the past few years trying to sign a more celebrated roster of poker players. From PokerStars inking each World Series of Poker main event champion immediately after they win the title, to Full Tilt picking up almost every major ‘name’ player you can think of that doesn’t have their own pet project, you’ve got a pretty big variety of names trying to tug you to one site or the other. This past week, PokerStars added two new members to their roster: the on-fire Gavin Griffin and long time pro and actor Chad Brown.  Read more...

There’s been a pretty rash nice of online poker tournaments parades in the past few months, and one of the best of all of those still remains Full Tilt Poker’s FTOPS VIII. They’ve just released a schedule of the events for this new session, from hold em to PLO to Stud and all through the gamut, each one again hosted by a variety of online pros.  Read more...

NBC Heads Up Championship Schedule
Thursday, 10 April 2008
You may have already heard about the results of the NBC Heads Up Poker Championship, but that doesn't mean you can't watch the action round by round. NBC HUPC has been a reliably entertaining show a few years in a row now, and this year should prove to be no different, with crazy action and some weird appearances by folks like Orel Hershiser, Shannon Elizabeth, and all sorts of others, in addition to the usual crew of well known pros.  Read more...

Vanessa Rousso Wins Poker After Dark
Tuesday, 08 April 2008
It's not often these days that you see a pretty face taking down a poker tournament, much less a table full of pros. But that's exactly what happened this week when well-known PokerStars Pro member Vanessa Rousso took down the win on the new season of Poker After Dark. The win cemented yet another prize purse in a long career of strong money finishes for this sexy poker professional.  Read more...

Catgirl Plays Strip Poker Alone
Thursday, 01 May 2008
Ever wondered what would happen if a hot naked girl showed up at a poker tournament to try to play in the buff against her opponents? Thoughts of this kind have probably fueled several middle-aged small stack shover’s late night poker fantasies, though as far as I know, it wasn’t until this past week that something of such sensation actually came true. Yes, it was at the PartyPoker World Open that a 23 year old Russian contortionist known as Catgirl showed up fully naked to play her first heat. And guess what? She didn’t have a poker belly.  Read more...

Poker Retrospect: The Life
Monday, 28 April 2008
There's never been a bigger time for poker. In the recent boom of gaming televised and online, a legion of new celebrity has formed around the career gambler. Beyond the lucky amateurs who come out of nowhere to win millions in tournaments, there are those who've practically grown up around the card table, who've won and lost a fortune trying to keep themselves fed.   Read more...

The World Poker Tour on GSN is going strong and this week’d broadcast proves to be a pretty interesting match up, with the king of the hill Barry Greenstein heading up against a recent WPT champ Jonathon Little, as well as 3 young and volatile online pros and one lucky amateur. The players involved this week are Kofi Farkye, Scott Clements, Jeff Garza and Dave Cloutier. This is a broadcast of the North American Poker Championship at Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagra Falls, Ontario. Here’s are some notes on the plays made in the event.  Read more...

Poker Player Profile: Patrik Antonius
Thursday, 17 April 2008
There’s a reason why you’ve been seeing Patrik Antonious on just about every major poker show around right now: not only does he mix up his game between extreme gambling and extreme solid play as much if not more than the great Gus Hansen, Antonious also has a willingness to put all his money on the line in spots when he could get called, if he believes he can make his opponent lay down. This man simply has no fear, and if he can smell yours he’s going to use it against you, and unfortunately for you, he can smell most fear.  Read more...

Limping With Big Hands
Monday, 14 April 2008
Most of the poker books you read are going to tell you that on those rarer occasions when you are dealt the big daddies in poker (AA KK QQ), you should raise. Obviously this is a standard procedure, as most of the point of poker is to bet and get money into the pot when you are ahead and let your opponents be the ones drawing, and also to protect your big hands from those random two cards making magic. But the biggest dividends often lie in hands where you disguise yourself, and put your opponent off what they think you have and onto another page entirely.  Read more...

Vanessa Rousso: Who is she?
Wednesday, 09 April 2008
How much do you know about Vanessa Rousso? Probably not a lot, though in recent years, she's become one of the hottest female players on the pro poker circuit. (She's not too bad looking either). As a winner of more than $1.2 million in lifetime winnings, including several final tables in WPT and WSOP events, Rousso is someone you should know about.  Read more...

Game Selection & Bankroll Management
Monday, 07 April 2008
Today I want to think a bit about bankroll management. This is often an overlooked and/or completely ignored part of non-pro players’ games, though it should be regarded with as much relevance as not playing drunk or tired, and not playing garbage hands. If you aren’t keeping tabs on your bankroll and where you’re at, and by this I mean beyond the simple “I have an extra hundred this week, might as well throw it on a table,” then you are asking in the long run to not know where you’ll be.  Read more...
