Full Tilt Poker Takes a Lead |
January 6, 2008
As reported at the turn of the new year, Full Tilt has now become ranked as the most traffic-heavy gambling site online. As of the beginning of 2008, Full Tilt had logged a whopping 10,000 live cash game players seated a table at once, edging out over their biggest competitor, Party Poker.
Full Tilt and Party Poker had been neck in neck all through the last months of 2007 for which site corraled the most traffic. But in the end it was Full Tilt that edged it out at the very end, coming up over Party Poker by 250 players as the new year rang in.
The major differential here is to note that Party Poker no longer controls a percentage of the U.S. poker action, having moved out of the country in late 2006. The fact that they're still able to compete number-wise against Full Tilt is testimony to the huge European contingency they have accumulated in the absence of the American market.
As well, Party Poker also has been competing more heavily with several new online sites that don't accept American users. Two new networks, OnGame and iPoker, have both been seeing a flood of new players on their sites, representing an even bigger chunk of competition against PP.
In other perhaps surprising news, the BoDog gambling site recently dropped out of the top 10 poker sites based on their numbers, though new promotions they've recently unleashed in Europe will likely help fix that.
Outside of all of this, PokerStars is still the number one site as far as total registered players goes, having passed the 150,000 mark earlier in 2007. The second place holder, Full Tilt Poker, is way behind that with almost half of the number of users.
What does all this mean? Obviously, both of these sites are monsters and the race will go on, but the wealth of numbers is yet another sign of poker's thriving against the pressure in 2008. The numbers will continue to grow on all ends, the pots will continue to get bigger, and more and more people will help see us into a new era of online gambling. |
