Massive Online Tournament Payouts
December 27, 2007

Despite all the controversy and blather going on recently over the U.S.'s abysmal and nonsensical stand against online gambling, there's really never been a better time for online action. No matter what they've throw at us, online casinos have managed to continue providing action in some of the biggest online payouts imaginable. This past weekend proved that in spades.

PokerStars was one of the biggest action sites this past weekend when the PokerStars Sunday Million turned out a staggering 6,680 players registered into a total prize pool of $1,336,000. With that much money in the pot the top 900 players got paid, with a whopping $192,116.80 going to first place. A couple of familiar faces turned out big in the event including Hevad "Mr. Annoying" Khan, who showed up in 166th place and Daniel Negreanu (screenname KidPoker) who finished 82nd.

First place was taken down by a player with the screenname Romanoff11, who likely was able to provide quite a nice set of gifts to his family with that huge six figure payout.

Full Tilt wasn't too far behind in this action, sponsoring their $750,000 Guaranteed event, which clocked in 3,695 players, just barely missing covering their guaranteed pool. First prize paid out $132,787.50 to a player by the name of Claw1980.

Several other sites also sponsored some big events this weekend, including the ParyPoker $300,000 guaranteed.

It's quite heartening to see the online community continuing to thrive despite the odds stacked against them. Online play has never been as healthy as it is now, and though sometimes it seems we have to jump through some hoops, it really isn't all that hard. Not to sound corny or sentimental, 2007 has been a fantastic year for poker and 2008 will continue on in that tradition, as great organizations like the Poker Players Alliance and outspoken pros like Annie Duke and Howard Lederer continue to make it known that this isn't going away, this isn't negotiable. Online poker is here to stay. New people grow rich every day. You can't fight numbers. The numbers win.
