Russian National Poker Championship
This weekend launches yet another in the series of International poker tournament series, this time set in the Cosmo Casino of mother Russia, with intent to crown the first Russian champion. Eight different tournaments will be held over the course of the rest of the year, the first beginning with this weekend’s launch, and winners will receive golden bracelets, a step down from America’s perhaps, but a good start.

While the gold bracelet is on the line, the price on entry will remain high stakes. Like in the States, anyone who wants to compete will have to throw down the $10,000 entry. Obvious Russian poker stars like Alex Kravchenko and Kiril Gerasimov will certainly be in the house.

The events are getting no small wind of press also. There’s already a flux of magazines and new magazines summoning up to take on the coverage. Also there will be video coverage of the event online, where viewers will be able to see players’ hole cards in the same way they are shown on TV.

Another similar series is being run concurrently to these events, called the Russian No-Limit Holdem Cup. This series will include 8 tournaments with a $5k buy in and the player with the best overall performance in the lot will take home the coveted cup.

If you’re going to be in the area and you feel like taking on the national title of a major country, might as well drop in, no?
