Chris Ferguson Wins NBC Heads-Up Championship

The NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship has been around for four years now. In three out of those four years, Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson has been one of the final two. In the two years before this, he's been but a bridesmaid, finishing second to both Phil Hellmuth and Ted Forrest. This year things went a little differently, and Chris Ferguson can lay claim to what is maybe one of the most important titles left in tournament poker: Nation Heads Up Champion.
 
Amateur to Play Phil Ivey on NBC

As was announced last week, online amateur Alisha Kunze won a spot playing on the NBC Heads Up National Championship by playing in a series of tournaments on PokerStars. She will be one of two amateurs invited to the invitation only tournament where 62 other pros will go at it in a bracket style tournament to determine the National Heads Up championship. Earlier this week a pool was run to determine who would face who in the first round of the event.

Not too often does a random online poker dude from Middle America take down an international European poker event, but after qualifying online through PokerStars.com, online amateur Tim Vance got a seat in the European Poker Tour's Copenhagen event and ended up winning nearly $900,000 euros in the process, not to mention a hell of a trip overseas.
 
PokerStars Awards First Online Amateur Spot On Heads Up Poker

As you’ve probably heard by now, PokerStars offered a tournament series that would place one online qualifier a spot on the upcoming NBC Heads Up Championship. That player is Alisha Kunze, a 23-year-old student in nursing from Indiana. She will be playing against the all-star list of poker pros at the tournament which will be taped in Las Vegas Feb. 28 – March 2, for later broadcast on NBC.

In the recent recognition of their need to expand marketing strategies to regain the enormous presence they once had on the poker market, the World Poker Tour has just announced a new promotional campaign for their program called the WPT Poker-Made Millionaire, which celebrates the 84 million dollar winners from World Poker Tour events. The campaign will be headed up by young millionaire and poker celebrity Antonio Esfandiari, who originally appeared on the show to do magic tricks to begin the proceedings.
