Phil Hellmuth, Jr. was born on July 16, 1964 in Madison, Wisconsin.  He went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison but dropped out after his third year to pursue his poker career full-time.  Phil currently lives in Palo Alto, California with his wife Kathy and his two children.
Phil, the self-professed “Poker Brat” has been one of the most recognizable poker players to grace the television, books, Internet and a soon to be made feature film.  His first impressive victory came in 1989 when he defeated Jonny Chan in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker.  That win placed the first of his eleven (and counting) WSOP bracelets around his wrist.  With all his bracelets being in the game of Texas Hold’em Phil has established himself as one of the authorities of tournament Texas Hold’em.

Known as one of the nicest, gracious, and generous people away from the table he also has the reputation of being arrogant at the poker table.  Not one to keep his opinions to himself Phil is quick to point out when a player gets lucky against him or playing badly.  Phil has often been seen berating others at the table and many see his loss of composure the biggest challenge he needs to overcome.  Even with this leak in his game, he is admired by spectators and peers alike for his superb poker ability.  As a testament to his success for the last twenty years Phil was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2007 forever placing him among the Legends of the game.

Phil is also a king of branding and his own commercial image, ensuring that he is involved in many different endorsements.  He has written three poker books, with one making the New York Bestsellers list, has an instructional audio program and is involved in a WSOP branded training seminar.  These are just some of his achievements and they are sure not to be his last.  Phil can be found playing at UltimateBet.com, a site that he has been a part of since it opened its doors.
